#3 enter the luxury mclotto universe..ABANDON YOUR INSTINCTS
Issy Wood's furniture, a Joe Colombo revelation, and a no limits wishlist plus the usual favorites
Hello! Thank you for reading McLotto. If you missed last week’s interview with Herman Wakefield AKA Northwest MCM Wholesale read it here.
This week there are the usual FB Marketplace/ Craigslist finds plus things that I just want regardless of price/ availability. Salivate over a wonderful chair, dream of a perfect Carlo Nason lamp, and release yourself mentally from the shackles of price and logic!!!
There used to be a time after college when I avoided looking at anything I couldn’t afford (which was EVERYTHING) and succumbed to a survivalist mindset. It’s good to remember that much like hope, luxury is a discipline!! Cultivating a healthy relationship with your desires is a lifelong pursuit, and you might as well start today. Look at a velvet DAYBED, muster up the strength to go into a luxury store and try on some clothing, request a QUOTE at Green River Project LLC, go to your eBay watchlist and get the small wooden knick-knack or an old Comme set you’ve been ogling at for weeks….
First, some quick reads/news since I’m traveling/ OOO:
Finished The Woodcutters by Thomas Bernhard — if you’re looking for a story about being a prodigious hater this is for you. Short and devastating!
This incredible review by Rachel Tashjian about Miuccia Prada’s latest collection: “It was a bit more documentarian than Mrs. Prada’s collections tend to be, though that’s the result of her great chemistry working with stylist Lotta Volkova; together, they produce shows that look like a woman licked her finger, put it in the air, and picked up the slightest breeze no one else could feel.”
It looks like artist Issy Wood might be entering the furniture universe? Or maybe I’m misreading an Instagram story, but either way I really liked a glimpse of this couch/ chair/ furniture piece.
Another chair as a palate cleanser before we get into deals. I’ve been looking at a lot of Joe Colombo stuff recently and I never really “got” this Elda chair named after his wife. It’s been in Bond movies and Brigitte Bardot‘s home but I always thought it was a little too overpowering for rooms.
Then I saw this version in red and realized I just need to be thinking about more sinister things. Feel evil and look your best! Great baby shower gift for a genius baby. There’s also this beat up one selling on Chairish that is fantastic. Pinky and the brain sort of thing. Buy accordingly.
QUICK HITS IN THE NYC/ NJ AREA
I found the same desk organizer from last week for $50 on Etsy. Great for some matchboxes and thumbtacks. Get it here.
This Noguchi lamp is $100 which is half off the store price. I bought the same one years ago and I still have it on my desk — works great and looks so pretty.
A nice little Kartell organizer for $320. There’s the classic Joe Colombo trolley here too for $675 — a little expensive for what they go for normally.
Incredible set of plush club chairs for $600 total. I’m very close to buying these for myself.
The perfect chair for your entryway at $299. Hang up your coat, put your shoes in the box….I adore this piece.
Wow! I love good wood and this bookshelf will last you a long time. Look how cozy it is! Going for $750 on Craigslist.
LUXURY MCLOTTO: IMPOSSIBLE THINGS
This Gary Knox Bennett just sold on Live Auctioneers recently and I watched wistfully as the bidding continued to go higher and higher. Sold for $3,500. His other stuff is great but this bench is a real stand-out. He’s also name-dropped by Parks and Rec character Ron Swanson in a woodworking episode.
I love all Carlo Nason lamps! The lotus one is maybe my favorite, but this is great as a floor lamp — selling on 1st Dibs for almost $4,000.
Bruises Gallery produces some incredibly whimsical pieces, and these wooden stools have been stuck in my head for a while.
Beau Traps posted this carved stone mirror a few weeks ago and it looks like it’s still for sale! Shoot them a DM if you’re still interested.
I have always wanted an old gym bench!!! The number one grail. This one sold on Live Auctioneers a while ago but 1st Dibs usually has a consistent supply. They usually sell from $1,300-$3,000, so if you see one at a garage sell or estate sale grab it immediately. Bonus points for ones with blue legs.
Going with the Joe Colombo chair from earlier, this one is a similar style to his tube chair produced by Flexform. Unlike a lot of things you find on Live Auctioneers, this came and went and I’ve never seen it anywhere after. The stripes, the form….looks so comfortable, weird, and warm. I wish it could talk.
Thanks so much for reading.
