#14 Get comfortable: finding the perfect accent chair, Hannah Bronfman's apartment, antique pharmacy bottles, and more
Dutch delft tiles, Alessandro Michele's apartment, space age lamps....
Hello! Welcome to McLotto, a furniture newsletter for pieces from the tri-state area and beyond. All typos and grammatical errors are, of course, intentional. Find the perfect club chair, celebrate lucite, buy an old Comme button-down, and delve deeper into Craigslist. If you enjoy McLotto send it to a friend or keep it a secret. 💋
Some news
Alessandro Michele’s apartment tour is just as good as you thought it would be. It also includes some of my favorite eBay search terms, including Dutch delft tiles, antique pharmacy bottles, and small oval portraits.
Artist Daniel Arsham’s new apartment also (unfortunately) looks kind of like what you’d expect it to look like
As a follow-up to the last newsletter, the NYT talked to the woman whose apartment decoration video went viral. Ms. Ganzarain, who works in resource management, explained her aesthetic: “I love the basic neutral palette. Beige, white, brown. Earth colors.”
Sarah Ellison’s float sofa continues its reign in a PORTER shoot starring Anne Hathaway.
Demand for Togos continues, despite the memefication and endless knockoffs.
Oversized linen duvets are still very big. Colin King’s new collaboration with Cultiver follows the trend nicely.
Several people messaged me a video of heiress Hannah Bronfman’s apartment tour along with this guy’s post-work routine that circulated on Twitter last week. I find the latter commentary kind of pointlessly cruel with a cloying faux hysteria that thrives on Twitter. As for Bronfman, the bunker-style pad isn’t necessarily surprising, although the books-to-bookshelf ratio is unhinged.
The weekly roundup
A perfect glass and chrome coffee table ($550), this modular bookshelf ($400), absolutely obsessed with this wooden carved cigarette holder from Fango Blanco that currently holds crayons(€180), this wavy credenza is a steal ($350), let the light in part two with these candle holders ($75), an all-time favorite……trompe l’oeil tables are beautiful and this one should get a perfect home ($85)
Other things that look nice: a pair of shoes from the Row for $200, get a fucking punchbowl for NYE!!!, a status water filter for $200 that I would love to get, and some nice space-age floor lamps ($700).
How should you think about accent chairs?
A few people have DM’d me asking about accent chairs so I’ll link a few I found this week below. In short, accent chairs are low risk and high reward. A good one will transform your space, and a bad one is easy to rectify with a quilt or a quick side table transformation. I found a children’s wooden chair — kind of like these —in the abandoned lot on my block a few years ago and it’s made a great nightstand.
Skilset NY also always has a sale if you’re looking for a nice wooden chair — add some cushion pillows and you’re good to go.
15 minutes before sending this out this red lounger is still up for grabs ($350), Good behavior is selling this leather lounge chair and ottoman for a nice price ($375), this printed chair to add some texture to your room ($495), a leather rocking chair for some late-night reading ($620), this white lounger looks incredibly comfortable, ditto with this one($350)
Thanks for reading.
