#11 busts forever, housewarming gifts, vivienne westwood button downs, room dividers, raised planters, and more
Hello! Welcome to McLotto, a furniture newsletter for nice pieces from the tri-state area and beyond. Find the perfect club chair, celebrate lucite, buy an old Comme button-down, and delve deeper into Craigslist. If you enjoy McLotto send it to a friend or keep it a secret. 💋
Quick news:
READ THIS. I love Jack Fisk’s work but this in-depth NYT interview has so many incredible quotes and genius tidbits. He’s designed some of the most incredible sets — There Will Be Blood, Mulholland Drive, The Revenant, and most recently Killers of the Flower Moon!!!! (Regardless of how you felt about the last one the set design was breathtaking.) It’s long but there’s an audio version as well.
This sofa makes me believe in the power of FRINGE!!! A humble suggestion for a couch or chair that needs some sprucing up in your space, courtesy of @ameldawilde.
Now to some new items on the watchlist….
Antique firescreens and tiny busts baby! The former I’ve gotten into after trying to find a way to hide the wifi box in my living room — they’re a nice way to elevate a small space and easy to put in front of Amazon boxes or random tiny messes that accumulate when you have people over.
I keep a watchlist on for small busts and this one comes in at a nice $38 if you’re looking for another trinket or something to make your desk feel more important.
Firescreen on the top right is here, top left one is here if you want to ball out.
The bottom row is for a dear friend who asked for some fun housewarming gifts — these have been on my watchlist for a while and I think they would make a great addition to anyone’s home. (You also can’t go wrong with a nice bottle of alcohol, some custom matchboxes with their name on them, a nice pair of wine glasses (Zalto if you want to go crazy), some custom coasters, etc…..)
I’ve been eyeing this Alessi trivet for a while and love it. It has a lot of different configurations, stacks nicely, and is often an afterthought in the homeware design business. Alessi makes a few of them that are all incredible but this one takes the cake IMO. Normally they go for 160$ but this one is 98$. While I’m at it someone please buy this fly swatter!
A classic that’s a great gift for any new couple moving in together is this two-cup espresso maker. Great for a friend who reposts Sam Youkilis and is a bit of a coffee snob.
Buly is a mecca for gifts of any kind — check out their gifting section to give your friend a bespoke comb or stamped lip balm — but their scented matches are a great tiny gift.
Not pictured but if your friend is obsessed with a certain Commission button down, this vintage Vivienne Westwood top one has the same effect for a fraction of the cost.

If you don’t have stools or plinths in your home it’s time to correct that mistake. They’re so versatile, don’t take up a ton of space, and generally will always look cool and fun. Stick some coffee table books on top, treat it as a side table, use it as a foot rest…..the stool is your oyster. These look so nice and are decent for the price.
I think this striped sofa is perfect for any room and for $100 bucks you can’t go wrong. Looks cozy for winter, and has a pull out bed for any extra friends staying over.
People have room dividers alllllll wrong. This one looks solid, albeit with some minor scratches, for a corner of your room that needs some depth. Put some old quilts on top and you’ve made yourself knockoff green river projects corner for $50.
OK this planter has haunted me for almost a year because it’s been reposted for months and months. While the price has dropped significantly since I first saw it in January, I think you could get it for a way better price if you message the owner. These go for a lot higher online and its chrome — what more could you ask for?
I haven’t seen a nice wrought iron piece like this on FB marketplace for a while. Looks really solid with woven leather that could bring some nice weight to any room
If you’re looking for a nice deal this Roger Rougier lounger could be perfect. Beautiful leather, and a quarter of the cost of what they sell for online. Something nice if you want a leather touch to your room but can’t get an LC3 sofa. I don’t think 1st Dibs has great prices for the market but this same lounger is selling for $2,450. This leather lounger is also a great choice but has some wear and tear if you’re looking for a project.
A nice leather green chaise for a bedroom or a small space — looks super comfortable and in pretty decent condition.
Thanks for reading!
